It’s 90 degrees in downtown Flint, Mich., and Jayson Miguel is shirtless, in a pair of gray sweatpants. He’s hanging out, minding his own business—and breaking the law. It’s not that he’s loitering (he’s on his way to...

I find the sagging thing offensive cause I really dont want to see anyones undergarments or buttocks. However, I believe that jail time is a bit harsh but i would agree that a citation should be issued after a warning.

@Bobbette: I don’t think our cops should waste any time being the baggy pants police or fashion police. This would just add more paperwork for something that is totally harmless.
Offensive to you... but lots of things are offensive, but not against the law.

You know where the style comes from, right ? The whole style thing from gangs and gangstas - in prison they are not allowed to wear belts, so their pants sag. This is emulated by youth who think there is some semiotic capital in replicating such ignominy.

Personally - I like a nice tight belt.

And let me just say, in a reference to style and fashion - it is never what one wears which it fashionable but it is the way in which one wears it which is fashionable.

Also - some bottoms are much more aesthetically captivating than others...
it is interesting that the low-rider jeans phenomenon has ridden coat-in-tail with the tendency for young women to get tattoos on their lower-back...

I’ve seen a lot of those around. They all look like US surplus to me! They look like 6x bigger than the wearer’s size.

And they also serve as very capable street sweepers!

@Graeme: Interesting point ”the man” created the style by not allowing belts.
So this may have never been a problem if all prisoners wore jumpsuits.

As far as your fashion statement, it’s hard to argue, but the top designers make outrageous fashions just to get attention.

Baggy pants can be good.. See my old photo. But seeing a buttcrack or your underwear, unless you’re a fat plumber requires no police action, but the vigilante TASER to the groin solution!

Well.. That’s my idea anyway.
